Short History of Brunton

Brunton is a well-known optics company located in Riverton, Wyoming.  Their emphasis has always been on developing products for outdoor enthusiasts; in addition to binoculars, they also make rifle scopes, lights, compasses, solar panels, GPS systems, and camping and backpacking equipment.

Common Features

Brunton offers a wide variety of features, some of which are common to most pairs of binoculars and some of which depend on the price level of the binoculars.   The best include Truest Light, which is a transmission system with flat-light coated objective lenses--which offer the truest colors, superior phase correction coating, hybrid aspheric ocular lenses which function to minimize distortion, have AL-HR reflective coating for superior light reflection, and rubber coating for an easy grip.  Many are nitrogen-filled for perfect waterproofing and fog-proofing.  They offer high speed focusing at close ranges and far ones, a long eye relief system, and the most secure prisms in the world.

Performance/Ratings

Many of the customer reviews of Brunton binoculars were from people who had decided to get more serious about their outdoor activities, such and hunting, kayaking, or bird watching, but couldn’t justify spending several hundreds of dollars on a pair of binoculars.  For these folks, buying a mid-priced Brunton was the way to go. They praised the sturdy construction, the light and clarity, and the accessories—especially the lens caps that couldn’t be lost!  Some such as yachters and kayakers were especially impressed with the waterproofing.  Other positive comments concerned the ease of focusing, both close up and at distance, good balance, good eye relief, and the lifetime warranty.
