Digital Camera Binoculars

Binoculars are used by birdwatchers, amateur astronomers, the military, parents, hunters, boaters, and sports enthusiasts. Two identical telescopes are mounted side-by-side and pointing in the same direction, which allows the viewer to see distant objects, animals or people.

Digital camera binoculars are one of the newest technologies on the market today that enable users to not only see a distant image, but to record it as well. These compact binoculars feature high-quality optics that deliver fantastic pictures.

There are several different styles, makes and models from which to choose. Camera binoculars are digital and can be purchased with spotting scopes and night vision. Your digital images can easily be downloaded onto your laptop computer or your computer at home. A built-in LCD screen on the binoculars allows you to preview and save or delete images as they are taken. Many of the models have a live video option, or "instant replay", which gives the user about 20 seconds of recording time in addition to still shots.

Shopping for a camera binocular could be daunting unless you understand a few terms. There are typically two numbers in the camera binocular name. These refer to the magnification and aperture of the binoculars, not necessarily the camera. For example, a specification of "8x32" gives you two bits of important information.

The "8" means the object at which you are looking can appear eight times closer to you. The second number of "32" means that the aperture lens is 32mm in diameter. These specifications, depending on how the camera binocular will be used, could determine which one you purchase.

If you are taking several pictures at a time, it would be wise to purchase a digital camera binocular that has a slot for an additional memory card. Birdwatchers and hunters are known for sitting in one spot for longer periods of time. A tripod adaptor may be important to you to capture the still pictures or video, minimizing "camera shake" by placing the camera on a tripod. The speed of focus and ability to zoom in and out quickly is vital for capturing quick shots (birding, sports). Ideally, camera binoculars should function well in bright light and low light alike.

Bak-4 prism glass is used in the high-quality camera binoculars rather than Bak-7 glass. Full multicoated (FMC) lenses refer to several layers of special coatings on both sides of even the internal lenses. As light passes through the glass, lens coatings minimize the color distortion and loss of light.

The camera part of the combination has its own specifications. The term "mega pixels" describes the resolution of the sensor in the camera. In order to produce decent 4x6 photographs, a 1- or 2-mega pixel camera is recommended. The lowest resolution is described as "VGA" and would work for e-mailing or posting online.

The source of several complaints from camera binocular owners is that the camera focuses further away than the binoculars. Simply translated, if a photo of something relatively close is taken, it will most likely be blurry. However, they are fantastic for photographing objects that are far away. With this understanding, if you plan to take pictures of far away objects, then digital camera binoculars are a good investment.
