Binoculars by Leitz are basically the same as Leica binoculars for the simple reason that they are of the same company, the latter belonging to the newer generation. These types of binoculars are no longer manufactured; however, you may want to by them as added collection to your vintage items. Short History of Leitz

It was in 1907 that the company of Ernst Leitz was established in Wetzlar, Germany. The very first binocular that was ever produced can magnify an image up to 6 times with an objective lens diameter of 18. They were created between 1907 and 1910. Later on, approximately between 1908 and 1919, a military binocular known as Binodal Militaris was produced. Like the first binocular created, this can zoon an image up to 6 times, but the diameter was made bigger—21 mm. During World War I, more models came into the market, such as the 12x60, 10x50, and 7x50, to name a few. However, during the onset of 1931, production practically stopped and didn’t resume until 1956.

Leitz binoculars have very powerful lenses, which can produce very clear and sharp images. You can basically look at any object with great precision even when you’re very far. They are also made of very strong materials, allowing them to last for a very long time, even a decade. They can also be somewhat long too, measuring 6.34 inches tall. A carry strap is also attached to the binoculars. Some of the binoculars, however, may lack proper coating. Nevertheless, they have incredible alignment.

Leitz optics are definitely worth an addition to your collection. After all, not only do they represent a portion of optics history, but they are also practically beautiful and elegant to look at. Of course, you can add to the fact that some of them are working perfectly. Nevertheless, the fact that they are no longer manufactured, some of these binoculars may be showing signs of deterioration, which is then something that you need to watch out. You can also check if the lenses are free of any abrasion or scratch, for if they are present you won’t still be able to see properly no matter how many times you will magnify the image.

Popular Leitz Models

There are some models of Leitz binoculars that are now being sold in auction sites, including Ebay. One of these is the Leitz Trinovid binocular, which can magnify an image up to 7 times and with a diameter size of 42B. It comes with a strap, which you can wear around your neck and is quite tall. You can also find a variant of the Trinovid series, which has superb prism system called Uppendahl. It can increase magnification to 8, but the objective lens diameter can be quite smaller, measuring 40B.
