Why Buy Audubon Binoculars?
This product comes with either 25-year or lifetime warranties. It provides excellent quality, a trusted brand name, and a
variety of features and models without ever climbing into the excessively high price range.
Short History of Audubon
Audubon binoculars are made by Sheltered Wings USA and endorsed by the National Audubon Society. This nature-oriented
society was founded in the late 1800’s in honor of John James Audubon, who recorded over a thousand species of North American birds
in his life. The society encourages people to love and preserve nature, and sees bird and nature watchers as an important part of
this; hence, their endorsement of a line of optical products to make these activities convenient, safe, and enjoyable.
Common Features
The lower-priced models come with a cord or woven neck strap, a belt-loop or soft carrying case, and a lifetime warranty.
Some models also include rubber coating over the housing, large focus wheel, rubber eyecups, fog-proof views, waterproof construction, and
objective lens covers. The more expensive models include these features, plus a 5-lens internal system, glare-reduction system,
pop-and-lock eyecups to adjust for glasses, soft tapered eyecups, close focus, coated lenses which improve light and clarity, phase
correction on roof prisms, advanced XP multi-coatings, multi-coated optics and BaK-4 prisms.
Performance/Ratings
Most customers gave Audubon binoculars very high praise in their reviews. They were characterized as bright, sharp, and
easier to handle for people with small hands or eye glasses. They are given especially good reviews by birdwatchers and
hunters. One small criticism concerns the possible color distortion some users experienced at the far edges of the field of
vision. Most others, however, said that their color resolution and clarity were impressive throughout. Some reviewers also
complained about the lenses fogging in harsh conditions, and the fact that the center wheel has to be turned excessively in order to change
focus. Others, however, claimed that the lenses never fogged for them, and that they were easy to handle and focus. Another
complaint is that the lens caps often flutter in front of the lenses while someone is viewing. In general, they are considered to be
an effective and useful tool for the money.
